In Gaza, Israel's military commits egregious violations of human rights. However, the United States still offers the nation military support in spite of this. Thus, five Palestinians have filed a lawsuit against the US State Department, demanding that it cut back on or cease providing military support to the suspected forces.

On Tuesday, US local time, the case was filed. Five Palestinians who reside in Gaza, the occupied West Bank, and the United States filed the lawsuit. The case was filed in accordance with the 'Leahy Act' of the 1990s.Serious human rights abuses, including extrajudicial executions and torture, were alleged in the case.

The lawsuit claims that although the State Department had the option to enforce the Leahy Act, it chose not to. It is horrifying how Israel's egregious human rights abuses have escalated since the conflict in Gaza began on October 7, 2023.

Since early October of last year, Israel has been carrying out ground operations and bombings in Gaza. As a result, almost 45,000 Palestinians have lost their lives. The Israeli military has been charged with a number of war crimes, including genocide, by the UN and major human rights organizations worldwide.

Amal Gaza is a pseudonym used by one of the plaintiffs in the case, which named a working teacher residing in Gaza. In a statement, the woman claimed to have been displaced seven times since the war began. The Israeli attack claimed the lives of 20 members of his family.

"If the United States stopped giving military support to Israeli units that commit egregious human rights violations, it would greatly lessen my suffering and the unfathomable loss of my family," he said in a statement.

The US State Department told Al Jazeera that it does not comment on cases that are still pending.
