Counterattacks in Syria against Bashar-aligned forces

 26 December 2024

Forces loyal to former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad have been the target of a counterattack by the nation's security forces. According to the nation's official media, the incident happened on Thursday in the Tartus region in the west.

A fight with Bashar's loyalist forces in this province's Kirbet al-Maja town on Wednesday resulted in the deaths of three gunmen and fourteen security forces. Today was a day following this counterattack.

Three individuals were killed in today's attack, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), a UK-based organization that keeps an eye on the conflict in Syria. They were armed combatants who supported Bashar al-Assad, the overthrown president.

The attack was successful in "numbing a group of fighters," according to SANA, the state news agency. "Restoring security, stability and peace" in the area was the stated goal of the attack.

Bashar al-Assad is said to have his stronghold in Tartus province. The Alawite population, his own tribe, has been experiencing a lot of stress and anxiety lately.

The monitoring group based in the United Kingdom claims that security personnel attempted to detain a former Assad government official on suspicion of torturing inmates at the infamous Sednaya jail, which is close to Damascus, the Syrian capital. When "several residents did not allow to enter their houses and search" at that time, the conflict was put an end to. A'surprise attack' was carried out on the security troops by the officer's brother and a number of other armed individuals. This incident resulted in the arrest of multiple individuals.
