Ukraine's KYIV -- According to Ukrainian officials, Moscow launched 96 drones and a guided air missile into Ukraine during the course of the night and into Sunday.
The missile and 66 drones were destroyed in the midnight bombardment, according to Ukraine's Air Force. According to the report, one drone entered Belarusian airspace, and another 27 drones were "lost" over other regions, most likely due to electronic jamming. There were no recorded casualties.
Russia has launched almost 900 guided aerial bombs, 500 drones, and 30 missiles against Ukraine in the last week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Sunday.
Zelenskyy said that these "attacks would have been impossible if we had sufficient support from the world" and urged Ukraine's friends to supply "long-range capabilities for our security" on Sunday on X. Regarding its repeated requests to utilize the long-range weapons it provides to strike targets on Russian territory, including preemptive Ukrainian strikes on training facilities for North Korean troops, Kyiv is still awaiting news from its Western allies.
"Truly effective sanctions to prevent Russia from importing critical components for drone and missile production" are another call to action from the Ukrainian president's allies. This request comes after he stated in a speech on Saturday that more than 2,000 drones and missiles "still using Western components" were fired into Ukraine in October. He also emphasized the necessity of stricter export regulations to stop sanctions evasion.
19 Ukrainian drones were shot down in three different regions of Russia overnight into Sunday, according to the Russian Defense Ministry: 16 in the Rostov region, two in the Belgorod region, and one in the Volgograd region.
Regional Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reported that a man was killed in a Ukrainian drone strike in the Belgorod region on Sunday.
